78What is Axillary Hyperhidrosis?
Axillary hyperhidrosis?! What's that?! It's more common than you think.
Axillary hyperhidrosis, commonly referred to as overactive armpit sweating, is a leading cause of embarassment among adults. Sweaty armpits are unattractive and oderous, so what can be done to stop axillary hyperhidrosis? What are the treatments and cures for axillary hyperhidrosis? Well stay tuned, 'cause I'm here to help you out.
Out in the lumberyard, us lumberjacks get quite sweaty. Just the other day I had to take my flannel shirt off due to the intense heat of a scorching sun. Javier, a fellow lumberjack, was kind enough to point out that I was suffering from a severe case of axillary hyperhidrosis. At that moment it dawned on me that I should devote my life to curing axillary hyperhidrosis. Goodbye armpit sweat! This work is the culmination of my years of study on the causes and cures of axillary hyperhidrosis.
Causes of Axillary Hyperhidrosis
Excessive sweating can be caused by heat, emotions, and a variety of neurological, metabolic, and systematic diseased. Hyperhidrosis generally occurs in the completely healthy, however. The exact causes of axillary hyperhidrosis in healthy individuals is currently unknown, but don't worry. Millions of brave scientists are working on a cure for axillary hydrosis as you read. Never give up hope.
Treatments for Axillary Hyperhidrosis
Currently there are a variety of treatments for hyperhidrosis. Some are over the counter, but most you will need to see your physician for a prescription.
Over-the-Counter Anti-Persipirants
At nearly every convenience store, drug store, and supermarket, antiperspirants are typically coupled with deodorants and contain aluminum chloride to block the sweat ducts and stop hyperhidrosis. OTC Antipersipirants should be tried first, as they are quick and readily available.
Prescription Anti-Persipirants
Available only with a doctor's prescription, these antipersipirants contain aluminum chloride hexahydrate, a more potent version of ordinary OTC antipersipirants. If these don't stop your excessive armpit sweat, then you will need to try more drastic measures.
Oral Hyperhidrosis Medications
Anticholinergic drugs, such as glycopyrrolate (brand name Robinul), can be taken to prevent sweating, but they frequently have bad side effects and are only recommended for the most severe cases.
Iontophoresis for Hyperhidrosis
Iontophoresis is a procedure that involves passing ionized water over the skin to prevent sweating. It is painless, at home, and an effective treatment for axillary hyperhidrosis. Your doctor can prescribe a machine to purchase.
Botox Injections
Injections of the botulism toxin into the armpit to paralyze the sweat glands has recently been approved by the FDA.
Surgery - A Risky Cure for Axillary Hyperhidrosis
As a very last resort, a surgeon can destroy some of the nerves responsible for sweating with a procedure called thoracic sympathectomy. This procedure carries high risk, as it can sometimes increase sweating and cause heart and lung problems. It is not recommended, but available.

Great hub!
I want to second the warning about doing surgery to stop sweating. it's NOT a good idea, oftentimes it doesn't even work (and can make the problem a lot more serious). Do a bit of research about it online if you consider this option, I am quiet confident that you'll see for yourself that it's just too dangerous.
I have written about ETS here also: http://sweatingguide.com/hyperhidrosis-treatments
I got the surgery and it cured me and changed my life with minimal risks beyond the risk of any surgery. It is for more extreme cases, and not just if you have overly sweaty pits.
how much does surgery cost
I have been suffering with excessive underarm sweating my whole life, I have seen a handful of doctors and tried everything I can think of. I recently started using a product called 1-2Dry and it has been working really great. It absorbs all the sweat in these little comfortable pads that go under my clothes- which ensures no one can see it and I don't get any embarrassing stains! Hope this might help others with my same problem!
